Engineering and Technology Literacy for
High School Science and Math Teachers


Fall 2004
Grading Policy & Assignment Guidelines

Grades for this class will be based upon weekly assignments from lecture professors, an end of semester project, and a final exam.  In addition, students registered for Engr691 will be required to complete an additional assignment for graduate credit.  See Dr. Robinson for details of this assignment.


Important Dates:

Final Exam                          - Dec 15, 4:30-6:30, SFB 103
End of Semester Project  - Due on December 8, Give to Dr. Robinson


Weekly Assignments (50%)

Weekly assignments may consist of review problems or questions about the lecture or
group projects designed as activities to be used with students in grades 7-12.
Parameters for the projects will be given by the professors who assign the projects.

End of Semester Project (20%)

The end of semester project will be a unit plan, minimum of three weeks,
that is suitable for use in a grade 7-12 science or math class.

The Lesson Plan should have three parts.

Part I: Unit Outline
The unit outline will include a goal for the unit, and a three week outline of the content,
and skills to be taught (including main goals)

Part II: Lesson Overview
A Lesson Overview for one week of the three week outline with five abbreviated
sections (Objectives, Abbreviated Content, Activities, Resources, and Assignments)
for each day of the week.

Part III: Daily Lesson
One Daily Lesson, should flesh out what you will be doing in each part of the lesson,
and give specific details; e.g., time  allotments, what materials you will use, etc.
The unit lesson plan should also include an assessment that contains examples of
multiple choice, true false, matching, short answer and essay questions.
The assessment should include some questions that require higher level or critical thinking.

Final Exam (30%)

The final examination will be comprehensive with short answers and longer essays taken
from material and assignments given in each of the 14
classes.
